Dihydromyricetin (DHM), also known as ampelopsin, is a naturally occurring flavonoid found in Ampelopsis grossedentata, a vine traditionally used in East Asian wellness practices.

Alcohol is processed first by alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), which converts ethanol into acetaldehyde, and then by aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), which converts acetaldehyde into acetate. Preclinical studies have examined whether DHM influences these pathways, but faster alcohol clearance has not been established.

Animal and cellular research suggests DHM may also interact with GABA-A receptor pathways involved in alcohol’s effects on the nervous system.

Additional animal studies suggest DHM may support liver health by helping defend against oxidative stress and lipid accumulation associated with alcohol exposure. Human research remains limited.
