Sulforaphane Supplement

Sulforaphane is a bioactive compound concentrated most highly in broccoli seeds and sprouts. It is best known for activating the Nrf2 (Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2-Related Factor 2) pathway, which upregulates the body's own antioxidant and detoxification enzymes — including glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and heme oxygenase-1. In whole foods, sulforaphane exists as its precursor glucoraphanin, which converts to active sulforaphane on contact with the enzyme myrosinase (released when plant cells are damaged during chewing or digestion). In supplement form, Double Wood uses Sulforaphane Glucosinolate (SGS), a stable precursor that survives manufacturing and converts to active sulforaphane in the gut.
